But let’s first talk about the ugly side of the problem.

What Causes Dull Skin?

Young, healthy skin usually has a glow and radiance that everyone notices. But sometimes our skin loses this healthy appearance, and it gets dull. The million-dollar question is why. The culprit is usually one of the following reasons:

  • Dehydration. When you’re dehydrated, your skin doesn’t get enough blood. As a result, it looks pale, dull and sick. What’s worse is that dehydration leads to deep wrinkles. So, don’t overestimate skin dehydration if you don’t want to have future skin problems. To achieve glowing skin your skin may need extra hydration, using products with hyaluronic acid can help you contain all day moisture!  Here is some interesting facts you should know about hyaluronic acid, Click Here!
  • Lack of exfoliation. Dead skin cells sometimes build-up on the top layer of the skin. That’s why it’s important that you exfoliate once or twice a week to remove them and speed the rejuvenating process.
  • Stress. When you’re under a lot of stress, the body produces cortisol, which leads to more oil production and oily skin.
  • You’re not sleeping enough. Your skin cells repair and regenerate while you’re sleeping. If you’re not getting enough sleep, your skin is not getting enough blood, and it loses it glowing complexion.
  • Pollution and exposure to harmful UV rays.
  • Smoking. Cigars contain many harmful substances that affect not only your organs but also your skin.
  • Bad food habits. Food high in sugar, fat, and salt is bad for the skin.
  • Last, but not least, aging also contributes to the loss of glow and radiance. With time, your skin cells don’t regenerate as quickly as they used to be.

Now you know what could cause your skin to lose its radiance. However, if you have any other symptoms, you should consult with a doctor to rule out a medical condition.

Signs of Healthy Skin

Since skin appearance is essential to all of us, we have to pay careful attention to it and watch out for warning signs. Here are the signs that you have healthy skin:

  • Your skin has a consistent color. Any blemishes or blotchy spots are a sign that something’s wrong. It could be lack of proper sleep, a reaction to a cosmetic product or simply stress.
  • It has a smooth texture. The presence of bumps, pimples, or acne is a symptom of clogged pores.
  • It doesn’t bother you. If you feel pulling, itching, stinging or burning, it means something is wrong.
  • You have no acne, sunspots, or wrinkles.
  • Your skin is well-moisturized and doesn’t feel dry.
