5 Tips for Cleaning your Carpet
Having a carpet at home can make the house look more inviting to not just the people who live there but also the guests who will visit. A carpet can make the space look warm and can definitely add to the beauty of the room.
But one thing about carpets is that they would need to be maintained. It is inevitable that carpets will get dirty, especially if there is a lot of foot traffic in that area of the house. Here are some tips for carpet cleaning that you may want to use for your home.
1. Treat spills immediately
This is a rule that you will need to abide by. If you let the stain sit there for long, chances are, you will not be able to remove it completely. It will not be a problem if you have a dark-colored carpet and the stain is not visible, but imagine a pristine white carpet with a wine or spaghetti stain on it. Once something spills on your carpet, whether it's food or liquid, treat it right away.
Remember to blot the stain and not rub it because it will only cause the stain to further go into the carpet. You can use your go-to stain solution for this.
2. Use your vacuum cleaner regularly
Don't wait until your carpet gets too dirty or dusty to bring out your vacuum cleaner. You should be cleaning and using is more than once a week, some even every day especially if there are a lot of people going in and out of the room where the carpet is. And even if there are no people going in and out, but if the windows and doors are open, dust and pollen can still get in.
3. Steam clean your carpets every other week
Aside from regular vacuuming, you should also consider using steam cleaning your carpet. There are vacuum cleaners that have this option. Why should you steam clean your carpet? Because even if you vacuum regularly, chances are there will still be particles that have not been cleaned. These particles are so small that you cannot see them, so steaming can help get rid of them.
Remember to put a solution on your steam vacuum cleaner before doing the process. There are many solutions available on the market, but you can also make your own with the use of hot water, detergent, white vinegar, and fabric softener.
4. Remove the odors
Odors on your carpet are inevitable when you have pets in the house. And if you just leave it be, it may get harder to eliminate. While there is spray on you can buy at the store, you can also use your own by mixing baking soda, water, mouthwash, white vinegar, and your favorite essential oil.
5. Get the help of professionals
If you have tried all these and feel that your carpet is still not clean enough, better call a professional to help you with your carpet cleaning. They have access to tools and equipment that may be more effective than what you have at home.
